Thanks to the lovely Celine Dasneves for the taking these photographs. She came on tour with Buckman Coe and the boys, and added a beautiful female energy!
In September and October of 2018 Buckman Coe, a local artist and now friend from Vancouver, invited me to play in the release of his new album Gathering Storm, heavily influenced by reggae and featuring my old drum teacher Sam Cartwright on the record. It was fun learning Sam’s parts, and we did a kickoff show at the Imperial in Vancouver, then hit Victoria, Nanaimo, Tofino, Powell River, Saltspring Island, Squamish, West Van and Chilliwack with a KILLER band. Including: Jonny Roper (guitar), Andy Cakes (trombone), Timja Spy (bass), Harvey Paris (keys), Caleb Hart (vox, gtr), with a few appearances by Matt Reid (bass), and Alex Moffet (videographer).
Every tour has a unique dynamic, a vibe between each individual musician that either works or doesn’t, and you can feel it both on the stage and in the van or ferry getting to the next gig. This group of individuals was an absolute TEAM, bound to each to each other through belly aching laughter, super high energy shows, and lots of drinks. Staying up all night and catching the first ferry to the next destination occurred at least once. But if we had time, we’d wake up, do pushups and pull ups, or yoga, eat and get coffee at a local spot, and casually hit the road to do it all over with the next bunch of amazing locals hosting us. We stayed at some amazing people’s places, I’ll have to ask Buckman to remind me what their names were because these humble heroes truly are the salt of the earth; welcoming, generous, solid people who let us stay in their homes. All in all, a great tour.
